Ameyoko Shopping Street ¥11,000
Place
Ueno, Tokyo
Ameyoko (Ameya Yokocho) is a 500 meter-long shopping street located between JR Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station, with more than 400 stores lining the street. It has a history of development from the postwar black market, and there are theories as to the origin of its name, such as “Ameya Yokocho” because there were many candy shops, or “America Yokocho” because there were many stores selling American products. Today, it is known as one of the leading shopping streets in Japan, where specialty stores selling a wide variety of products gather.
